LOW BACK PAIN

Low back pain is a major reason patients seek physicians. In fact, 80% of Americans will experience significant lower back pain during their lifetime. 50% of working age adults will experience low back pain for at least one year. Low Back pain is an epidemic and right now over six million Americans are in bed with back pain. This adds up to $50 billion in lost workers compensation payments and medical bills per year. Chiropractic is a safe and effective way to reduce low back pain and return you to your daily activities quickly and pain free. Recent studies show that Chiropractic is the number one treatment for low back pain above both general medicine and physical therapy. A study was completed with 171 patients who had been totally disabled by constant severe low back pain for an average of 7.6 years. In which, all were candidates for low back surgery and were referred for Chiropractic care. Approximately three weeks later, 87% of study group returned to full function with no restrictions for work or other activities. An additional research study showed that Chiropractic patients total health care costs were significantly lower than medical patients, on average saving $1,000 per year compared to the general population.

SCIATICA AND LEG PAIN

The Sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body and runs from the pelvis to the feet. When the sciatic nerve is irritated the condition is called Sciatica. Not all leg pain is Sciatica, but Sciatica almost always involves leg pain. People that suffer from Sciatica often have severe pain along the path of the nerve, usually radiating into the leg, thigh and back of the knee. However, Sciatic pain can reach into the ankle, foot and toes when severe. Apart from pain you may also experience numbness and tingling in the legs and feet. Chiropractic has been a blessing for millions of Sciatic patients. One research study shows that Chiropractic care is the treatment of choice for sciatic pain. In another study, comparing Chiropractic, traction and two types of spinal injections, the patients receiving Chiropractic care showed the greatest degree of recovery. Chiropractic decreases Sciatic pain by removing nerve pressure from the pelvis and lower back. This helps to decrease the inflammation along the nerve path and allows for proper nerve flow, significantly decreasing Sciatic pain.

NECK PAIN / WHIPLASH

Neck problems and whiplash can be caused by slips, trips, falls, auto accidents, poor posture, work habits, and even birth trauma. Neck pain and whiplash can cause shoulder pain, upper back pain, tension headaches, migraines, numbness and tingling in the face, chest, arms, and hands. These conditions can also result in anxiety, insomnia, ringing in the ears, dizziness, hearing loss and blurred vision. Whiplash is caused a traumatic event causing the head to be thrown forcibly forward or back. This traumatic force causes soft tissue damage to the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the neck which can create long term problems if not treated properly. Chiropractic addresses these injuries by reducing the pressure on the soft tissues and restores proper joint mobility which helps to stabilize the musculature and return it to its normal state. This treatment is done with light, pain free mobilization and manipulation of the joints of the neck and upper back restoring proper bio-mechanics. Along with physiotherapy, these treatments helps to reduce swelling, promote healing and restore function. This allows the injured patient to return to his or her regular daily activities almost immediately.

HEADACHES

Headaches are a common complaint that Chiropractors see everyday. Headaches can be caused by many different things: high blood pressure, sinus issues, smells, light, fever, infection, alcohol, caffeine and trauma. The most common cause of headaches, however, is dehydration, followed closely by hypoglycemia. The next most common type of headache is from stress. Stress leads to tension in the neck and upper back and makes up approximately 90% of all headaches that are not nutrition related. Medications, such as Tylenol and Ibuprofen only give temporarily relief for this type of headache and can lead to serious side effects if taken for long periods of time. Chiropractic is successful with tension headaches because it locates spinal misalignment and musculature changes that cause nerve irritation and tissue swelling in the neck and reduces this by restoring the spinal misalignment, which in turn relieves nerve pressure and stress and restores proper muscle and joint function, which allows the blood vessels and nerves of the head and neck to function properly reducing headaches.

SCOLIOSIS

Scoliosis is defined as an abnormal curvature of the spine, which can be both front to back or side to side. In the majority of cases, the body presents with normal vertebra, discs, ligaments and tendons. A common misconception of Scoliosis, is that it is caused by poor posture. The fact of the matter is, nobody really knows why Scoliosis occurs. However, Severe cases of Scoliosis can lead to heart and lung problems, which can be life threatening, so it does need to be monitored properly. Chiropractic always addresses body and spine as a unit and is based on proper balance of the muscles and joints of the spine which helps to alleviate abnormal curvature. Chiropractic allows the body to find balance by reducing abnormal stress which may be causing abnormal curvature to occur. Chiropractors do not treat disease. However, they do correct spinal misalignment, subluxation and muscle imbalance, all of which, can cause abnormal curvature and interfere with the nervous system and proper bodily function. Research suggests that Scoliosis may be caused by a neurological defect which reinforces the Chiropractic approach.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Carpal Tunnel is common in today's society due the overwhelming amount of repetitive tasks performed: computers, meat cutters, musicians, housewives, secretaries, carpenters and others. The problem stems from the median nerve which passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist. The median nerve is impinged upon due to bone misalignment within the carple bones of the wrist. The medical approach to this condition is wrist immobilization, ice, oral medications, steroid injections and surgery. Which, are only minimally successful at best. Chiropractors takes a different approach. They evaluate the relationship between the carpal tunnel and the bones that form it, as well as, the spine is well documented by researchers. Research has found that spinal nerve root irritation and compression in cervical spine can and will refer pain to the wrist. So, a patient who suffers from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Ulnar Neuropathy may have impingement in the neck, elbow, wrist or any combination of the three. Chiropractors are well trained to deal with these types of nerve impingement and in many cases relieve the pain and prevent surgeries. The way a Chiropractor does this, is by freeing the nerves in impinged areas with gentle manipulation which allows the nerve flow to be restored. Chiropractic is very successful treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and could make the difference between a pain free wrist or surgery.

WORK INJURIES

By law your employer is required to carry Worker's Compensation insurance. However, being injured on the job can be a horrible experience if you do not understand your rights. Work injuries and accidents are unfortunate but do occur from time to time. They can occur by a single event such as a slip or fall or due to repetitive motions from doing the same thing over and over again. If you are injured and can't work because of a job injury, workers' compensation will pay your medical bills and provide money to replace your lost income until you return to work. If you have been injured on the job, Chiropractic is a safe and effective way to reduce your pain levels and get you back to work in a timely manner. In the United States, over 40 years of Workers Compensation studies by nearly a dozen state investigations revealed that Chiropractic is the most cost effective treatment for work injuries.
