HIstory:
56 year old female presented with severe pain in the neck, mid and low back with severe headaches on a daily basis. Symptoms presented as constant spasms and tenderness throughout her body with dull achy to sharp stabbing pain and radicular pain into the arm and legs when aggravated. Pain is so severe she is unable to perform her daily acticivites and states she has been to her medical doctor and numerous specialists over the past 5 years with no relief.
Examination:
Patien presented in obvious discomfort and slow movements of the neck mid and low back as well as wide based antalgic gait due to pain levels. Palpation revealed severe tenderness in the paraspinal musculature bilterally with active trigger points noted in the trapezius, scalenses, rhomboids, Quadratus lumborum and piriformis. Spurlings test, Formainal compresion test both elictied severe cervical pain with radicaulr arm pain. Kemps, Yeomans and Psoas test elicited severe low back pain and SI joint pain bilaterally.
Diagnosis:
Cervical Neuritis, Thoraic Neuritis, Lumbar Neuritis, with Fibromyalgia, muscle spasms and myocitis.
Treatment
Patient was treated with diversified chiropractic adjustments, physiotherapy including stretching strengthening and myofascial release three times weekly for 4 weeks and stated 80% improvement in symptomatology.
Discussion
Patient suffered with a Fibromyalgia and neuritis that did not respond well to medications or physical therapy and presented to this office as a last hope for pain relief. She was treated for 30 days at which time she stated 80% improvement and that she was able to walk the mall for the first time in 5 years with her family and did not have any pain that evening or the following day. She continues to treat at this time on a 4 to 6 week period and is able to perform her daily activities and has only occasional mild exacerbations with fatigue that are controlled with as needed chiropractic treatment.
